Directed Studies and Music

To further enhance our understanding of the western tradition and contextualize the texts we study in DS, we invite you to explore the DS and Music web page. Curated by former and current DS students and faculty, the page is organized according to author and provides links to musical selections that are in some way related to the texts we read in DS. It is very much an evolving work in progress, and if you’d like to contribute, please write DUS Kathryn Slanski. We are in particular need of music to complement the readings from the fall semester.

We also encourage you to explore course offerings in Music History in the Department of Music.

DS @ the Movies

In collaboration with Films at the Whitney, one of our neighbors at the Whitney Humanities Center, Directed Studies has the opportunity to show films occasionally on the big screen in the Whitney auditorium. We choose films to complement our studies with the aim to create a space for students and faculty to meet and discuss ideas outside of our regular classroom settings. We’re planning to screen one or two films each semester.

If you’re interested in proposing films we might screen, please contact Kathryn Slanski.
