In our final colloquium of the academic year, DS hosted a screening of Frantz Fanon: Black Skin, White Mask. Directed by acclaimed multimedia artist Isaac Julien, Frantz Fanon: Black Skin, White Mask is a 1995 docudrama about the life of the Martiniquais psychiatrist and civil rights activist Frantz Fanon (1925–1961). Archive footage and interviews with family members and friends are intertwined with a superb performance by Colin Salmon as Fanon. The film screening (1h 10min) was followed by a brief Q&A about Fanon and the film with Francesco Casetti (Department of Film & Media Studies, Yale) and Jill Jarvis (Department of French, Yale).
