On Saturday, Feb 8, a group of DS students ventured all the way to the Metropolitan Opera in NYC to enjoy a concert rendition of Berlioz’ opera Le Damnation de Faust [The Damnation of Faust]. Students reflected afterwards on the experience:
“This trip has truly cemented my emerging love of opera and provided a fantastic way to understand the impact of works that we read in DS on arts and culture, even years after they were written.”
“I am excited to read Faust in a few weeks and experience the work from a literary perspective; I will keep the music in my head as I read!”
“Reading the English translation with the music overlapping was an amazing and eye-opening experience that truly allowed me to view our readings in a new light.”
“It was very touching and, having never been to an opera before, I will always remember it!”
